Employment in Detail
SEP 22 - PRESENT
Nanny
I returned to the family I left last year when the mother went on maternity leave to care for the 10 month baby and her older sister before and after school and during the school holidays.
It’s been lovely to spend such a long time with this family watching the children blossom and develop.
Sadly, the family are planning to move to Bristol in August as the mother has accepted a new job.
AUG 21 –SEP 22
Nanny
In August 2021 I cared for another young baby with separation anxiety. The parent’s and I worked together to help her through the transition successfully.
We had great fun together exploring the local toddler groups and attended a weekly forest school.
NOV 18 – AUG 21
Nanny
In November 2018 I began caring for a 10 month baby girl whilst her parents worked and studied 4 days a week.
We worked together to support the baby with her separation anxiety.
This position has really made me question my parenting style and as a result I have become a strong advocate for gentle parenting.
As both parents are key workers, I’ve continued to work throughout lockdown providing love, support, and care during these uncertain times.
The position came to a natural end when the mother went on maternity leave. As we were saying our goodbyes, she turned to me and said, “Don’t fall in love with another family we’d like you to come back.”
NOV 18 – NOV 19
Nanny
I worked as a nanny for this family 1 day a week caring for their 5 year old boy and 2 year old girl
This position came to an end when my present family needed to rearrange my working week.
JUL 18 – OCT 18
Nanny/Housekeeper
In July this year I began working full time for a family with 2 boys, 7 and 4 years who were relocating from Hertfordshire.
Both boys started at a new school in September, I helped make this as smooth a transition as possible for them.
Sadly, a change in the family’s circumstances forced them to terminate my contract prematurely.
MAR 17 – JULY 18
Nanny
In March 2017 I began caring for an active 12-month baby for two long days a week.
The position came to a natural end when the mother was expecting her second child.
I also worked as a nanny/housekeeper for a family with 3 older girls and housekeeper for another family I used to nanny for.
SEP 16 – MAR 17
Nanny
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with younger children again. The children were 2 ½ and 12 months old when I first started looking after them in September 2016.
The baby is milk and soya intolerant.
The position was supposed to be long term but due to a change in circumstances, the family have been forced to terminate my contract.
JAN 16 – SEP 16
Nanny/Housekeeper
At the beginning of 2016 I returned to nannying and worked three days a week for a family of 3 girls 12, 9 and 4 years.
I was employed on a short-term contract until the youngest child started full time primary school.
I also worked as a housekeeper one day a week for a family I used to nanny for.
JUN 14 – DEC 15
Recruitment Consultant
In June 2014 I became a self-employed recruitment consultant for a local nanny agency. I really enjoyed the challenge of doing something totally different but at the same time making use of all the years of experience I have had as a nanny.
The role allowed me to work as an ad hoc and emergency nanny, so I could combine my love of children with the consultancy work.
I looked after a 12-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl for one family twice a week and 2 girls 2 and 4yrs once a week.
I worked as an emergency nanny caring for an 8-month baby for two months whilst he was between nannies.
At the end of 2015 I decided that although I thoroughly enjoyed the consultancy work I needed a more consistent income.
SEP 13 – MAY 14
Nanny/Housekeeper
Part time care of 2 boys 9 & 11years. Both boys have undiagnosed behavioural problems, which I found extremely interesting researching and learning more about.
The job is to end prematurely as the boys’ mother has decided to give up work.
JUL 13 – SEP 13
long term illness
Unfortunately, I contracted chronic fatigue syndrome and was unable to work for this period.
OCT 12 – JUL 13
Nanny
I cared for a baby who was only 5 weeks old. Both parents worked full time, Mum was a doctor at a local hospital and was often on call, whilst Dad was away from home overnight, so I stayed over a few nights a month.
The position was to be long term but unfortunately, I contracted a virus and was unable to work for several weeks.
JUN 12 – SEP 12
Holiday nanny
I worked for a single parent family with two school age children providing summer holiday care.
We had a great time exploring all the local parks and having fun on a budget.
APR 12 – JUN 12
Care Worker
At the beginning of April 2012, I started working as a domiciliary carer – looking after elderly people in their own homes, assisting them with personal care, medication, meals and companionship.
I really enjoyed this role and was popular among the clients but unfortunately the care company were unable to give me enough hours.
NOV 10 – MAR 12
Deputy room leader/senior NURSERY NURSE
I worked alongside the room leader in a pre-school room caring for up to twenty 2 ½ - school age children.
In September 2011 I moved to the baby room caring for babies from 4 -18 months
Although the children at the nursery are lovely, I decided that I didn’t enjoy the feeling of being ‘cooped up’ I missed being able to go outside and enjoy the countryside on the ‘spur of the moment’.
OCT 09 – APR 10
Part-time student
I updated my NNEB by studying part time with the Open University and gained a level 4 qualification.
NOV 09 – JUL 10
Volunteer
So that I could update my experience with pre-school children I volunteered one day a week at a local Nursery with children aged 2-3 years.
I now have a much greater understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
AUG 06 – NOV 10
Nanny/housekeeper
The Bushfield family returned from Belgium in August 2006, I re-joined them as nanny/housekeeper as the two eldest children were in full time education and the youngest started school part time.
When the youngest child was settled in full time school, I became an after school and holiday nanny.
SEP 05 -
AUG 06 / AUG 10
IT FACILITATOR/Tutor/Assessor
From September 05 to Aug 06 I worked at our local IT centre as a full-time facilitator. During this time, I was responsible for tutoring adults in all aspects of Microsoft office. My role included presenting workshops, inputting data, prepping, invigilating and marking exams, helping students when they got stuck, filing, and booking exams electronically.
This has been a huge learning curve for me and I have enjoyed my time thus far immensely. I am learning so much and really enjoying the challenge.
Unfortunately, in February 2006 we heard that the government was withdrawing all funding for IT courses and that we were all going to be made redundant. West Suffolk College decided to keep the IT centre open, but only two days a week.
I completed my level 3 Certificate in Delivering Learning in April 2007 and then wrote and taught a beginners computing class a few hours a week.
FEB 05 –AUG 05
Nanny
I cared for two children, Girl 2.5 years and boy 18 months whilst their parents worked from home.
The position ended prematurely when their mother decided that she wanted to return to work part time after her maternity leave
JAN 05
Nanny for three children, Boys 6yrs & 22 months and Girl 4 years
This position was to be long term but unfortunately the family decided during the trial period, that through no fault of my own, we were not compatible.
During my six weeks with the family I had sole charge of all three children. This included taking the older two to school and playgroup and the younger to various music and toddler groups.
DEC 04
Emergency Supervisory cover for playgroup to cover sick leave
I worked for two and a half weeks to cover the playgroup leader’s sick leave, prior to that the group had to close because the deputy did not have the necessary qualification to supervise.
It was during the run up to Christmas, so we had a wonderful time making decorations and practicing for a Christmas performance.
NOV 04 – DEC 04
Part - time Nanny to Five children 10,8,7,5,3½ years
All the children were in full time school and nursery.
The 8-year-old boy is special needs; he has a tracheotomy and is blind. I learnt how to care for the tracheotomy and what to do in an emergency.
During the trial period, I realised that although the children are all lovely, I prefer to care for younger children and not just after school care.

I returned to the same family (Jun 98 – Aug 02)

During this time, I took an active part in planning the children’s curriculum, organizing staff rotas, receiving fees, answering telephone queries, welcoming and showing new parents around the whole nursery.
